Prescription diets help support the nutritional needs of patients with acute and chronic diseases.  These diets are also nutritionally complete, so your pet does not need to take additional supplements while eating one of these foods.  We also have available reduced allergen treats so your pet can still get a special snack without an upset tummy.

Our Veterinarians at the Suffolk Veterinary Group Animal Wellness Center prescribe specific diets to meet your pet’s specialized nutritional needs.  Each variety of food is exactly formulated to provide a complete, well-balanced diet during an illness, while also assisting in the management of chronic medical conditions.  Whether your pet needs omega-3 fatty acid supplementation to reduce the pain and inflammation of arthritis, or a low-sodium diet to regulate the high blood pressure associated with heart disease, your pet can always receive the complete and balanced nutrition they need with a veterinary specific food.  Pets that have food allergies do especially well on hydrolyzed protein diets, so they no longer have to suffer from itchy skin and chronic ear infections, while the reduced calorie diets help obese pets lose the weight necessary to have full and active lives.

Prescription diets are available only upon the recommendation of your veterinarian, and can be purchased only with a valid prescription.  In order to keep your pet’s prescription valid, we require your pet have at least one Yearly Preventative Health Exam a year to determine that the diet is doing what it is suppose to do for your pet, and to consult with you as to your pet’s benefit from the diet.  Additional diagnostic and health screenings may be required to monitor the management and progress of your pet’s particular illness.

If you are unable to submit your prescription by the designated date, the Veterinary Team will gladly special order your pet’s diet for you, but there will be a one week’s wait for delivery, and a charge of $20.00 shipping and handling.  Or you may order it online from our Vet’s First Choice Online Pharmacy and have your pet’s prescription diet shipped directly to your home.
