The Suffolk Veterinary Group PetCare Team is focused 100% on the medical needs of our patients. While your pet is hospitalized with us for a medical procedure, our team does not need to be called away from treatments to walk boarders, make grooming appointments, or supervise play times. Your pet gets a comfortable, quiet place to recover without being disturbed by the noise typical of boarding kennels and grooming salons, and they get a licensed professional dedicated to monitoring their recovery every step of the way.
We will never try to sell you anything. Our PetCare Team encourages clients to learn more about what we feel is in the best interest of your pet’s quality of life because we truly believe the medcine, not products, benefit your pet.
We don’t just let anybody monitor or provide treatments for your pets. A Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) is an individual who has graduated with a degree in Veterinary Technology Science from an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited higher education program, has passed the rigorous Veterinary Technician National Exam, and has been awarded a license to practice veterinary technical services from the New York State Office of the Professions. They are accountable to the same professional boards, and practice standards, as a Veterinarian. What this means is that your pet is being cared for by a dedicated patient advocate that will speak on your pet’s behalf in regards to pain management, dental care, nutrition, behavior, and the quality of medicine practiced at Suffolk Veterinary Group. LVTs are in surgery monitoring anesthesia, performing diagnostic lab work, in the exam room to comfort patients during procedures, and are always available to answer questions you may have about your pet’s medical needs. At Suffolk Veterinary Group, we are proud of the educational and professional accomplishments of our PetCare Team, and will always introduce those who’ve earned the distinction as Licensed Veterinary Technicians.
It is often the larger hospitals which can take advantage of technological advances in medical techniques before the community clinic, requiring patients to get referrals or travel out of their way to specialty facilities. At Suffolk Veterinary Group, we always make our patients our first priority, so when we thought of ways our practice could grow, we immediately thought of the use of a surgical laser. We believe our patients deserve the better prognosis and less invasiveness a surgical laser provides, which reduces bleeding, swelling, and infection all so your pet can benefit from faster healing times. The surgical laser is considered the gold standard for surgical techniques, and we use it for all our surgical cases.
Our medical focus may be on our patients, but you have to schedule the appointment, need questions answered, and remember to pick-up your pet’s prescriptions. At Suffolk Veterinary Group, we want to make these processes as easy and hassle free for you as possible. When your pet’s prescription is ready, we will call you that it is available for pick-up. Have a hundred things on your mind? We will call you the day before to confirm your pet’s appointment time so that you don’t have to remember it…an hour after it has already come and gone. And if your pet was ill when they saw us, we like to give you a call at least five days after their visit, just to make sure that we’ve met your pet’s needs and have addressed all your concerns. Some people may find this a bit intrusive, and out of respect for your privacy, we can stop calling you at your request.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) are constantly sending out public warnings regarding the legitimacy and safety of drugs being sold over the internet. We don’t want you to receive substandard, or even toxic, medications for your pet from some of these less-than-honest dealers. Since 2007, Suffolk Veterinary Group has been in partnership with VetCentric.com to provide for you an online pharmacy, VetStoreRx, through our website. To make sure you are getting the same standard of product and medication we would demand for our in-clinic pharmacy, we called our medical suppliers, and confirmed that VetCentric.com receives their products directly from those same suppliers, and not from third-party individuals. VetStoreRx allows us to provide you with all the benefits of an online pharmacy, such as home delivery, competitive pricing, special promotional discounts, and automatic refills without any doubt as to your pet’s safety.
All of us at Suffolk Veterinary Group have companion animals as part of our families, and many of us have children as well. Children are a big part of our lives, and we welcome their visits to our clinic. Our lobby has a dedicated play area with plenty of toys, books, and coloring to entertain young humans while their furry friends get an exam by the Veterinarian. Well behaved older children are welcomed into exam rooms to observe a Veterinarian at work, and to ask their own questions that we are more than happy to answer. Young adults contemplating a career in veterinary medicine are welcome to spend an observational day with us to see what a DVM or LVT actually does on the job. Children often spend more time with companion animals, on their level, than adults do, so we don’t like to discourage any input from them regarding a patient’s medical history, since it may very well provide a clue into an ailing pet’s diagnosis.
Suffolk Veterinary Group participates in a wide variety of internship programs to provide aspirating veterinary professionals the opportunity to meet their educational and career goals. Dr. Winkler especially loves doing presentation at local Career Days for our public schools. Organizers of special interest and youth groups are always welcome to call our clinic to set up special events with our PetCare Team so that we can all be a source of inspiration and education for the greater good of our companion animals. You can host your event at our facility at no charge, or we can travel to you for speaking engagements. Some of our past events include hosting American Red Cross First Aid For Pets classes, speaking at a Long Island Cat Fancier’s Association, and participating in the Miller Place High School Career Day fair.
You are always welcomed to consult with a PetCare Team member, tour the clinic, visit a hospitalized patient, or find out more about us. We’re never too busy to spend time with you. If you leave not convinced that we’re the veterinary clinic for your pet’s medical needs, let us know, we’d love the opportunity to find ways to improve our services so that you’ll visit us again some time in the future.
